I am a woman in business and I support other women in business because when women support each other incredible things happen.
I spent fifteen years in business and mostly I was so busy trying to figure it all out and stay in the game. I wasn’t really thinking about the fact that I was an entrepreneur or that being female really had any place in my day to day. But when I reflect on those fifteen years, I realize that most of my mentors and many of my customers were women. Our way of doing business was a bit different and rather than RFP’s or Business Presentations, I had one-on-one meetings, great conversations, honest interactions and … lifelong business partners.
And while these many women supported me, they also gave me hard truths when I needed them. When I wasn’t measuring up or keeping to my commitments, they let me know. When I wasn’t ready to handle the volume of a business, my dear friend gave it to me straight and suggested I work on infrastructure and come back the next year. It wasn’t threatening but encouraging and I realize now that without all of these amazing women, I could have been just another struggling female entrepreneur.
Instead my business won awards and prestigious recognitions (nominated by my female owned marketing company). My revenue grew progressively and steadily for seven years in a row (thank goodness for my female accounting firm partner) and my team rose to the many challenges faced in a fast growing business (staff of 24 of which 22 were female).
So when I sold my business it was with joy and sadness. Now three years later I have started a small business, Easy Job Board. As a way of giving back to my community, there is no charge to post jobs on my site during COVID. I figure there are enough financial challenges for businesses during COVID and I am excited and happy to support my amazing community with… one less expense.
I hope all businesses will try our job posting site and appreciate that it is my way of saying thank you for supporting me – a woman in business and entrepreneur.
